TEAMWORK IS GREAT, BUT...

The brain has a famously huge number of synapses that can connect in a vast number of ways. However it is not just these electrical connections that determine how we feel, but our hormones. Even for men!

Try this: think back to the best job you ever had, and recall the feelings that go with having a good time and getting things done. Chances are you’ll get some good feelings, and they come from the hormones dopamine (which gets you excited), oxytocin (the ‘hug’ hormone), and serotonin (raised mood).

When working life is horrible the result is a destructive cocktail of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. These reduce intelligence and raise blood pressure – bad news all round.

Check out the graphic – and think about how to get the culture and environment more positive at work!
